[Grandalf]

GCompris to wysokiej jakości pakiet oprogramowania edukacyjnego, obejmujący dużą liczbę działań dla dzieci w wieku od 2 do 10 lat.
Pierwsza wersja programu pojawiła się 2000 roku i zawierała 2 ćwiczenia, obecnie program posiada ich ponad 80, został przetłumaczony na blisko 50 języków, jest jedynym tak rozwiniętym pakietem edukacyjnym wydanym na wolnej licencji.

Niektóre działania są ukierunkowane na grę, ale nadal są edukacyjne.

Oto lista kategorii działań GCompris z kilkoma przykładami:
-odkrywanie komputera: klawiatura, mysz, ekran dotykowy…
-czytanie: litery, słowa, ćwiczenie czytania, pisanie tekstu…
-arytmetyka: liczby, operacje, tabel, wyliczanie, tabela podwójnego wpisu…
-nauka: blokada kanału, obieg wody, energia odnawialna…
-geografia: kraje, regiony, kultura…
-gry: szachy, pamięć, kółko i krzyżyk…
-inne: kolory, kształty, Braille…

Obecnie GCompris oferuje ponad 100 działań, a kolejne są rozwijane. jest to wolne oprogramowanie, oznacza to, że można je dostosować do własnych potrzeb, udoskonalić i co najważniejsze udostępnić je wszystkim dzieciom.

Wersja dla Windows nie jest pełna, jest możliwość dokupienia pozostałych ćwiczeń (tzw. crippleware), pozostałe wersje rozprowadzane są bez ograniczeń. Zgodnie z deklaracjami autora ma to między innymi zachęcić do używania wolnego oprogramowania np. którejś z dystrybucji Linuksa. Dostępne są płyty samouruchamialne z Linuksem i pełną wersją GCompris.

GCompris 0.96

For the windows version, we added a new entry in the start menu called GCompris (Safe Mode) to launch it with software rendering mode. This was needed as the auto-detection of OpenGL support was not reliable. Now, users can easily choose between OpenGL and software rendering without changing the configuration file.

Known issues:

• The progress bar for downloads doesn't work anymore. This is a side effect from our switch to https for hosting the files. We are looking to improve this for next release.

• Baby tangram: to learn the basics of tangram (this activity corresponds to the lowest levels of previous tangram activity)

GCompris 1.0

To celebrate the 20 years of GCompris, we are pleased to announce the release of GCompris version 1.0.

This new version contains a new major feature: the addition of the Activity Settings menu with Dataset selection for more than 50 activities, allowing to choose more specifically what can be learned on the activities.

Changes:

• Graphics have been updated for 21 activities.
• We have fixed lots of bugs.
• A build for Ubuntu Touch has been added.
• The spelling of the Turkish districts has been fixed.
• We added a minimal .msi alternative package for Windows.
• The GCompris executable has been relicenced to AGPLv3 due to a dependency of analog electricity.
