The Classic Browser 1.6
v1.6 Bugs reported and sorted (NB: We sneaked in replacement archives without changing version numbers)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Importing IE/Edge bookmarks generated a browser error. This has been fixed and was due to two important array variables accidentally deleted in our haste to get the new version out.
2. Backup Your Settings would sometimes generate a browser error although it worked ok. This has been fixed and had to do with the modal dialog box being called twice in succession without the first closing.
3. Adjust Page - the bottom row of options was slightly offset to the rest. This was due to HTML over-minification... we’ve got to be more careful with that!
4. In the XP version… some items don’t render correctly such as the Session History Menu’s title and Memory Watch. These have NOT been fixed and are due to the old Chromium v49 not being clever enough to render things correctly and requiring additional CSS styling.

And hence our XP problem… who is going to go over *everything* to ensure the XP version looks perfect?

CSS doesn't support “conditional defines” like 3GLs do, so this means we have to have a separate set of scripts for XP but who is going to maintain and synchronize them as we make changes to the W7+ version? A tremendous amount of work… an absolute nightmare scenario!

NB: We left browser error-reporting on by default so we could find all the horrible things that may be happening so we can fix them.

If you upgraded please check your "Online Services associations"
-----------------------------------------------------------------
When you go to...

Main Menu > Browser Options > Online Services Associations

If it looks like this...

Text Translator:

Text Search:
undefined

Email Client:

Proxy Server:
undefined

It means you have copied over your old Browser.cfg which isn't compatible with the new version, so please change those fields to these values...

New version 1.6 is now available…
---------------------------------
If you’re upgrading from v1.5 be sure to first backup your settings via:

Main menu > Browser Functions > Backup your settings

NB: The only file you shouldn’t copy back into the v1.6 folder is Browser.cfg because there are some significant changes to its structure so don’t use the old one please.

XP version to be abandoned…
---------------------------
This is the final XP version supplied because it requires too much extra work to render correctly and maintain, as the gap between Chromium v49 and the latest version (currently v58) has expanded too much. Sorry people but we just haven't got the time.

Changes coming soon in v1.6 (Late May 2017)
---------------------------------------------
1. Websites no longer have access to [ALT] key combinations, meaning that the browser will now have exclusive access to the ALT key and therefore no more keyboard shortcut hiccups.
2. Multi-Search now has a “Toggle Engines” button to make it more convenient when you want all search engines enabled or disabled.
3. The introduction of a "Online Services Associations" group in the browser options. Now you can designate which page translator, text translator, email client, proxy server, and text search engine is used. No more hard-coded online services in case they cease to operate.
4. The program's executable file now has the “Run as Administrator” flag enabled by default. This will prevent any disk access issues for people using non-administrative Windows accounts.
5. A new event handler now prevents websites that switch to full screen mode by asking the user for permission. A dialog box will intervene for your authorization. [Alt]+[F11] also kills full screen.
6. New handy buttons have been added to the left of the Address/Title bar, to quickly scroll to the top, middle, or end of your menus and Internet pages. (Affects any screen that has a main window scroll bar)
7. Some nifty coding has resulted in all menus now loading with improved memory efficiency.
8. Improvements in the "Adjust Page" control panel and its functions.
9. When you exit the browser a small and fast special system process appears for an instance to blow away the last traces of leftover Chromium junk files which we couldn't do while the browser was running because they were locked.
10. Content Settings (mic, camera, cookies, notifications, geolocation, etc) glitches (and thus disabled), in the browser options now sorted.
11. Updated documentation.

A basic usage crash course...
-----------------------------
Some of the support emails coming through are surprisingly for basic things like “How do I copy an image” or “How do I log onto FB” so here is a simple crash course on doing simple things while using the Classic Browser.

1. How do I copy images?

The browser supports drag & drop. Meaning that if you click and hold down the left mouse button on a picture, you should be able to drag it away to either your desktop or another program (like Word or Publisher) that is minimized on the bottom Windows bar. (Taskbar)

Hold the picture you’re dragging over the minimized rectangle for a few seconds and that program will open automatically and once it opens drag and drop the image in there!

If you right-click on an image (like Chrome users do to copy an image) the image will open in another tab and you can then zoom the image in/out with the mouse’s scroll wheel.

2. How do I copy a block of text?

With blocks of text you should highlight them by holding down the left mouse button and scraping over the text until it changes color, and then right-click on it and a little menu should appear.

On the little menu select “copy to clipboard”. Later, when you open another program click “paste from clipboard” and the text should now appear at the new location.

3. How do I move the browser out of the way?

To move the browser out of the way so as to be able to see the Windows desktop you can...

* Move your mouse cursor to either side (edge) of the browser until the cursor changes into a double arrow. This means that you can now hold down the left mouse button and drag the browser to resize it. This will expose the desktop while keeping the browser active. (ie: drag & drop images to your desktop)

* Click and hold down the left mouse button on the Address/Title bar (the program’s top-most bar where the little logo is) and you should be able to drag the entire browser around the screen.

After performing any of the above operations you should be able to restore the browser to full screen and positioning by clicking on the Maximize icon which is next to the exit icon.

4. How to log onto FB or Twitter?

You need to ADD all your website membership account details one-time for auto logins to work under…

Main Menu > Site Memberships > Add

Only then will auto-logons work. Your personal details will appear automatically when you click on each logon field.

The Classic Browser 1.7
V1.7 is now available for download.
------------------------------------
The latest version 1.7 of the Classic browser is now available for download and once again we have included an XP version that includes all the latest updates but once again we didn’t have the time to check if everything renders correctly in XP.

We therefore hope that XP users will jot down whatever doesn’t render correctly and send us a list to save us some time if we’re to keep it going. Thanks.

Changes coming soon in v1.7 (Imminent release)
----------------------------------------------

* Tab buttons have been changed to tab-like shapes. That's our compromise towards a "modern" look. :)
* Chromium text blurring that was affecting Adjust Page, Add Favorite, Add Membership, dialogs, and Menu Setup... finally sussed out and eliminated.
* New “Search Refine” gives you searching advice in Multi-Search. The great tool now gives great advice for more refined searching.
* New JavaScript V8 engine fine-tuning discoveries push page-loading speed to insane level. We cannot and will not be beaten.
* Now you can contact non-clickable email addresses by highlighting and R-clicking on them, just as you are able to open non-clickable URLs.
* Text Search completely rewritten with a better interface and multiple search options.
* Discovered more Google servers communicating with Chromium and blocked them including... DNS resolve, search domain check, connectivity check, crash server, attestation server, gcm checkin, gcm mcs endpoint, gcm registration, google base, homepage, is there no end? Feels like fighting Satan! :)
* Menu appearance setup now has extra options to configure the appearance of menu headings. These CFG structure changes make all your current .CFG files incompatible with v1.7 so you shouldn't reuse them but we’ll remind you of that later.
* We have upgraded to a more recent Chromium engine; it's not a full step up to v59 (which just failed our tests unfortunately), but a sub-upgrade.
* New super-function from the Main Menu > “Multi-Frame Mode”. Multiple sites in one tab are now a reality; like TVs having PiP (Picture in Picture). Fantastic!
* No more changes for this version. We are now in package and upload mode.

NEW: Multi-frame MODE is coming in v1.7 (Intro and how it works)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
To enter Multi-frame MODE you can choose…

Main Menu > Browser Functions > Multi-frame Mode

Or via the keyboard with ALT + F1

Repeating either of these will cancel Multi-frame MODE and you’ll go back to the normal Tab Mode.

The Multi-frame MODE is a TRUE “frames within a frame” not popup windows like some gimmicks in the form of Chrome extensions you’ll find out there.

The Multi-frame MODE is useful in a wide range of cases such as a social media person who can have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and say LinkedIn all opened side by side and logged on to observe their online social life.

Or a developer, who has multiple websites and wants to bring them all up side by side for some reason. There's no limit btw to the number of sites that get framed in this mode.

Or a power user who runs the Multi-Search and then jumps to Multi-frames to observe the outcome side by side! You get the drift…

How it works:

In Multi-frame MODE all your opened sites and any subsequently opened sites are neatly arranged in smaller rectangles in a single tab. It doesn’t matter which tab you click on because you’ll get the same output so there’s no need to click on tabs anymore while in this mode. Instead concentrate on the rectangles… your sites.

As your mouse cursor goes over each frame it becomes the “active” frame in which case you can then use a number of keyboard functions to control it like…

Go Previous : ALT + Left
Go Next: ALT + Right
Go Home: ALT + Home
Stop Loading : ALT + End
Refresh: ALT + F2
Maximize: ALT + Down
Minimize: ALT + Up

And of course all the usual mouse functions are available that you get in Tab Mode. We hope you’ll enjoy the Multi-frame MODE and tell us about all the great uses you found for it. :)

The Classic’s Custom Window and History manager: (Basic info for developers)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Classic browser has a custom window and navigation history manager and as such does not support all standard JavaScript Window and History object functions.

For starters, the standard window's maximum-history length limit of 50 has been replaced with unlimited history. This means that a user can use the same tab all day and will still be able to navigate to any of the hundreds or even thousands of URLs visited during the session by R-clicking on the tab and selecting a previously visited URL from the list. Websites do not have access to this list.

Custom history management means that the user gets full control of their navigation history and the websites none, as it should be. The following is a list of what websites can and cannot do with respect to windows and their history under this browser:

Supported:

window.history.back()
window.history.forward()
window.open('abc') // It must have a window title
window.name // get or set

Not supported:

window.history.go() // function ignored
window.open('') // will not open without a title
window.close() // only users can close windows
window.closed // boolean always returns false
history.length // returns incorrect random values usually “50”
history.pushState() // websites cannot insert or remove history entries
history.replaceState() // as above

Your feedback is encouraged and always welcomed:
-------------------------------------------------
Software developers are always interested to hear from their users. They need to know what they are doing right and what they are doing wrong so they can improve their software.

Are we making you happy? Are you facing difficulties? Is everything working on your system as it should?

These are the concerns that haunt all software developers when they lie in bed at night contemplating the day’s work before falling asleep from exhaustion.

No matter how many tests you run prior to releasing a program on the market you can never match the test it’ll receive when it roles out onto thousands of diverse computer environments that are out there, but you won’t be there to know if something went wrong!

And this is where you (the user) come in; if you have the time, to drop us a couple of lines about your experiences with the software. Without your feedback we will never know what went wrong and what went right.

Those who would like to drop us a line can do so via email… (oh and your suggestions are also welcome)

support@theclassictools.com

If you do not wish to receive a reply just mark the top of your email with a <no reply> and we will honor that. Alternatively, you can use an online anonymous email service to send your feedback.

Thanks a lot guys.

The Classic Browser 2.0
Newsmax pulled the plug on us!
------------------------------
Unfortunately, our video streaming demo link "Newsmax" seems to have pulled the plug before we noticed and released v2.0 with their link, so those testing video streaming will be disappointed to find this server down. :(

Did the Classic browser give them more traffic than they bargained for? :)

Damn... just when we were about to ask them for a royalty!

v2.0 is now available for download.
------------------------------------

* Non-standard HTTP request header fields serving Google's tracking empire are no longer honored, including:

X-Origin --> Now returns
Zaloguj lub Zarejestruj się aby zobaczyć!

X-Referer --> Now returns
Zaloguj lub Zarejestruj się aby zobaczyć!

X-ClientDetails --> Now returns the user agent
X-Client-Data --> Now returns the user agent
X-Chrome-Variations --> Now returns the user agent
X-Forwarded-For --> Now returns an empty value
X-Forwarded-Host --> Now returns an empty value
X-Forwarded-Proto --> Now returns an empty value

* Minor glitches discovered here and there ironed out.

* Expose the server's initial response headers via: Main Menu > Developer Tools > Response Headers

* Privacy violation reports - Just right-click on the add-favorite icon (heart) to find out what each website is up to.

* You can now declare a Site Membership directly from a menu entry. R-click > Add Memb > etc...

* Upgraded to the Chromium Engine v60. (Tests fine minus transparency)

* Transparency has NOT been fixed in the latest NW so this feature remains disabled until further notice.

“Your public IP address is 00.00.00.00”
---------------------------------------

Some websites make a big deal out of displaying your public IP address in an attempt to convince you that they know “everything” about you but what they don’t tell you is that the public IP is always offered to them on a plate by the browser or the server (website) wouldn’t know where to send their page to load!

It’s no different to snail-mail delivery at home. Let’s suppose you want to subscribe to a magazine to be sent out to you. Well unless you give them your home address how can they send your subscription?

The same goes with websites… you request to “subscribe” to them (via the browser) for that session so you are obliged to send them your IP (via the browser in a “request header”) or they cannot send you the content to load!

So the next time you see something childish like…

“Privacy exposed: Your public IP address is 00.00.00.00!”

Ask yourself what on Earth you’re doing on such a daft website telling you the obvious!

V1.9 is now available for download.
---------------------------------------------------

* Improved video streaming support both in terms of stream detection and subsequent handling. Easily set up your provider in the Options.

* Extended Multi-Links...

Now you can designate the opening of Multi-links in Tab mode. For example:

Open two links in MF mode :
Zaloguj lub Zarejestruj się aby zobaczyć!

Open two links in Tab mode : !
Zaloguj lub Zarejestruj się aby zobaczyć!

Just by adding an exclamation mark at the front of the URL string.

* Added two more color schemes.

* Restored broken Ecosia favlink.

* Special View from the main menu has been removed as it's no longer needed. Now you can R-click on elements to hide.

* The first stage of automatic updates has been completed... it'll trigger when v2.0 is out. Detects and prompts to download for now. Set this feature as required in the program's options.

* Some nifty maintenance work carried out.

* Fixed bug in "Add Membership" which would prevent a new membership entry from getting saved if you jumped to another tab and back again; usually to copy a URL or something.

* Added Ms Office support. Now all online Ms Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files will open in a new tab with the option to save to your hard disk.

* Check and update your DirectX via... Main Menu > Browser Options > Miscellaneous Tools > DirectX

TXT to RSS Feed?
-----------------
Contemplating making an RSS feed out of this mini news letter. We've already partially written an RSS feed generator so I guess we have to press on with it and make it happen.
But is it a better solution to this txt file? It will definitely look better but that's just one criteria. Not really sure...

The Classic’s powerful R-click:
-------------------------------

On a Link = Open the link in a new tab

On an Image = Open the image in a new tab for zooming.

On a Video = Open the video full screen (some video types only)

On an Input field = Display the Edit menu.

On highlighted text = Display the Highlight menu

On any other element = Prompt to hide the element (<-- NEW - Try this on FB, Pinterest, or any site's cookie banner... you're gonna love this!)

XP version axed.
----------------
The XP version has been removed from the home site and permanently abandoned as it does not meet our quality standards and there’s just no time to work on it. Apologies.

The Classic Browser FB page:
----------------------------
A good friend and Classic browser user was kind enough to create a FB page for the program so if you appreciate the work that has gone into this software now you can show it with your support on FB!

Zaloguj lub Zarejestruj się aby zobaczyć!

Other users who would like to create similar pages on other social sites are welcome and have our blessings because we really don't have the time to do this ourselves. You know what they say… “Bad publicity is better than no publicity!” :)

More info about U-tube downloading
-----------------------------------
When downloading media and you are prompted for a file name to save as, you can use the following file names:

audio.webm
video.webm

These are not obligatory but it helps to eliminate the confusion for later when you play and/or merge them because they’re both .webm!

The VLC player can play the .webm format and can also merge a .webm audio with a .webm video, so download it from here:

Zaloguj lub Zarejestruj się aby zobaczyć!
<-- Hope you're aware that you can highlight this URL and R-click > Open this Text-URL, right?

Btw, VLC can also handle Internet streams; that the browser can now detect and process, so be sure to designate VLC in your options for streams.

FFmpeg also allegedly merges webms but we couldn’t get it to work although we should mention that audio/video is not our forte so we were quite possibly making a mistake.

If you press [Alt + F3] you’ll see our desperate attempts to try and make some sense out of merging.

Finally we remind again that REFRESHING a U-tube page before attempting to DL helps the browser extract the correct file path from Google servers.

V1.8 is now available for download.
------------------------------------
The latest version 1.8 of the Classic browser is now available for download and once again we have included an XP version that includes all the latest updates but once again we didn’t have the time to check if everything renders correctly in XP.

We therefore hope that XP users will jot down whatever doesn’t render correctly and send us a list to save us some time if we’re to keep it going. Thanks.

For our Windows 7+ users... happy U-tube downloading! :)

NB: If your audio/video scraping icons do not look like what you can see in the first image on this site then you most likely need the font "Arial unicode ms" which displays special Unicode characters.

You can get it from here...
Zaloguj lub Zarejestruj się aby zobaczyć!
among other places, and then copy it to your C:\Windows\Fonts directory.

Also please read the section "Introducing U-tube Media Downloading" from further down to refresh your mind about how it works.

Lost faith in FFmpeg...
-----------------------
Our attempts to automate audio/video merging have so far failed as the 3rd party utility we were relying on does not appear to work... at least not with the “.webm” format.

In any case, we have left the interfacing dialog box in the browser which is activated with [Alt+F3] in case you want to try your luck with it.

Now we have to press on with the release of v1.8.

Introducing U-tube Media Downloading
-------------------------------------
The release of v1.8 is imminent so we need to inform you about this new feature that many of you will find useful.

The Classic now supports “u-tube” audio/video scraping and will insert media extracting icons on the bottom right of the browser’s viewport when such media is detected so if you do not see such icons on any given page, it simply means that no compatible media was detected.

Please note that in order for this tool to be able to extract the correct media links, the page must be refreshed so that the URL in the address bar converts to the format:

This is because U-tube doesn’t change the URL of the page when you click on a video so the browser has no way of knowing that you’ve started listening to something else and now want to download it. The important thing to remember is that if you want to download something ensure you have refreshed the page first or you’ll be stuck with the previous video getting downloaded.

The other important point is that when you click on the DL icons the media will be loaded in the browser’s player where a DL button exists. This is done because Google blocks all attempts to directly pinch their videos so we fool them by rerouting the media into our internal player first and it works.

Onto the usage… you will find two DL buttons; a blue one for Audio and a red one for video. This is because DASH media comes with separated audio and video and they amalgamate inside the U-tube player so we have to make TWO downloads if we want the video with sound and later we have to join them with a utility like FFmpeg.

As we post this message we are working on the final tool that calls FFmpeg and does the merging of the files. We obviously want to automate everything for you but you will have to interact with the merging tool so as to designate the downloaded files and output file.

This page of a u-tube downloader explains DASH media in more detail…

Zaloguj lub Zarejestruj się aby zobaczyć!

NB: Unfortunately under XP; which can only use Chromium 49, there is no download button on the internal player.

What to expect in v1.8
-----------------------

* The browser now sets high quality graphics on ALL websites visited instead of relying on the author's instructions.

* Site/page blocking has been improved.

* Some minor issues with copy/paste behavior now fixed.

* The Chromium v59 engine is now standard with this release. (noticed improved CSS3 support among other things)

* Changed the arrangement of Widgets to make them easier to access. An “Arrange” button has been added for a variety of configurations.

* Selecting an alternative Text Search engine in the "Online Services Associations" is now very easy with a drop-down pick list. Simply delete the existing text and a list will appear.

* The bundled HTML demo program "RapidPage" has been replaced by "Fakepath" to demonstrate the Classic's Intranet friendliness.

* Introducing Multi-Links... read below in the separate section for more detail.

* Now the browser detects and directs all LIVE audio/video streaming to a player of your choice under Main Menu > Browser Options > Local File Associations > Audio/Video Streaming.

* URL Keyword blocking has been implemented... as an example it's good for setting the browser up for kids by blocking all the naughty words etc.

* The browser will now detect U-tube type (DASH) media files and add extraction icons. This works on any site that embeds U-tube type audio/videos.

* Added the ability to email a web page as a HTML file attachment under... Main Menu > Page Operations > Email Page

* Improved site membership logons. On most sites; those that honor HTML5 conventions, you won’t even have to click on fields to populate them and you can just go straight to the logon button.

-------

* Automatic Updates research and coding has commenced. (work in progress)

* Video conferencing research is continuing. (research in progress)

Introducing Multi-Links!
------------------------

To complement the recently introduced Multi-Frame Mode, we are now introducing Multi-Links.

Now you can add menu items that have two or more URLs in a row that are separated by a tilde (~). This character can be found on the top left corner of your keyboard.

When you click on a Multi-Link is puts the browser in Multi-Frame Mode and opens all the links that are separated by a tilde (~) in its URL.

So to create a social Multi-Link we can go...

R-click on any Menu group > Add a new Item > Followed by...

Q. What shall we call the new item? A. My Online Social Life

Q. What is the URL of this item? A.
Zaloguj lub Zarejestruj się aby zobaczyć!

And in this way we have added four online social sites that will all open at once in multi-frame mode and the browser will assign a special icon to indicate that it's a Multi-Link.

Obviously for Multi-Links to work the browser must treat the tilde (~) as a special separator so to avoid any conflicts with any existing tildes in the URL (very rare) please replace them with the encoded equivalent "%7e".

Using Facebook with the Classic
-------------------------------
Left-clicking on Facebook options in the Classic seemed to refresh the page. We have no idea why this is happening as we have no such problem on other websites and we’re not FB users so we don’t really know why this is the case or what the expected behavior is… but what we did discover was that if you Right-click on a FB link it opens just fine in a new tab.

Bug Reports and issues...
-------------------------

Problem : The browser refuses to load and there's no activity on the desktop.

Reason : The browser is probably still stuck in memory from a previous bad session and only one copy of it can exist in memory at a time.

Remedy : Press [Ctrl + Alt + Del] and select Task Manager > Processes > and Highlight each entry called "Classic.exe*32" and then R-click > End Process.

Also : Some ill-behaved anti-virus programs will no doubt interfere with the normal installation and operation of our program because we're just a small unknown software house.

Our executable is indeed signed but we’re obviously not in their list of "trusted publishers".

If this is happening to you then you may have to go to…

Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall

…and add a firewall exception for the Classic browser, and perhaps add the Classic to the anti-virus' "exempted trusted list", or whatever each calls it.

Existing users please note:
---------------------------
If your menus were set up with a plain color for a background you’ll find that the color has now gone WHITE but don’t panic… it’s because for technical reasons we had to reverse the operation of “Fade Backgr” in the menu options, so just slide it from 0 to 1 and your color will reappear.

The Classic Browser 2.1
v2.1 is now available for download...
---------------------------------------

* Now you can also scrape all styling properties found on websites (colors and fonts).
* Improved Tab Manager and HTML5 reports for better readability.
* Right-click on the “New Tab” button for a handy surprise… (not telling what)
* Enabled accelerated page painting in the browser by default.
* Previously we had 44 hard-coded font styles to choose from to customize our menus but now the browser will detect and make all Windows-supplied fonts available for use.
* The Classic is a dynamic cache-less browser and as such ETags are of no use but we have still provided an ETag interceptor for you in the program Options!
* Embedded Resource Blocking - is the blocking of any external (3rd party) resource not originating from the website you are currently loading/viewing such as images, videos, fonts, buttons, ads, libraries, style sheets, payment systems, etc.
* Sanitize pages of annoying flashing ads etc. Betting and adult sites are the most likely culprits these days.
* Minor Chromium engine update. v61 was tested ok but was found 7mb larger and sluggish so we'll leave it for now.
* More stringent privacy reports. More info and more geekiness like they should be!
* System Information has been extended to include GeoLocation and Network Connection details. It got geekier.

Are you getting a "forbidden" when visiting our site?
------------------------------------------------------

Please note that we are blocking numerous IPs (mostly Ukrainian and other bots that are a nuisance) but in the heat of determining good from bad we may have made a mistake and are blocking someone we shouldn’t be so if you are getting a “forbidden” error message please write to us with your Internet IP address and we’ll sort it out. Thanks and apologies.

Auto-update downloading is buggy! :(
-------------------------------------

We are disappointed to have discovered that on some occasions the new version auto-download doesn’t close the file properly and you end up with a tmp file in the user downloads directory instead of the exe.

What’s annoying is that it worked perfect in all our tests prior to shipping... ah well, it’s back to the old drawing board with the first stage of auto downloads!

It’s just as well we didn’t rush with the entire auto-updating cycle or it would’ve been a total mess now.

Ah the frustrations of software engineering... all we can do is apologise and see to it that it gets sorted in the next version.

The Classic Browser 2.2
v2.2 is now available for download...
-------------------------------------

* New "Extract Resources" will extract all external resources from pages including Frames/Videos/Objects/Embeds.
* Customised HTML5 Video player will now display a download button if the source is a video URL such as an MP4 etc, but blobs (ie: Vimeo etc) are not yet supported for DL.
* R-clicking on images now automatically expands/fits them to screen size (not stretched) to give the mouse wheel a rest! :)
* A nice new color scheme has been added to be used as default and new default color schemes for menus.
* Some conflicting glitches when R-clicking on editable elements (the Highlight menu appearing when the Edit menu should) have finally been sorted!
* New powerful way to break out of persistent full screens… press [Esc] twice.
* Now when extracting the source code of a page you can select between the server or dynamic versions and perform comparisons.
* Much improved "Extract Links" utility.
* Lots of other minor optimizations/improvements here and there.

The correct procedure for installing the Classic browser:
---------------------------------------------------------

1. Disable your Anti-Virus temporarily if you have one.
2. Run the installation program but do not run the browser just yet.
3. Right-click on the browser's desktop icon and select...

Properties > Advanced > Run as Administrator > OK

4. Enable your Anti-Virus back to normal if you have one.
5. You can now run The Classic Browser by double-clicking on its icon.

The Classic Browser 2.3
v2.3 is now available for download...
-------------------------------------

* NB: The browser has now gone PORTABLE so you'll find a ZIP file instead of an EXE. We'll leave the old executable there for a week to give distribution partners time to make adjustments.
* New developer tools “Element Explorer” and “Element Exposer” will enable you to reveal the properties/events/script of all elements visible on a page as you hover over them.
* Multi Search has now been boosted by 12 additional meta search engines.
* New "User Text Macros" have been added via CTRL keys F1 to F5 in the program options. Assign any text string to these to use in websites with a keypress.
* A new resource allocation model has been adopted for the browser which basically makes the CPU and GPU concentrate more on the active tab than inactive tabs or those that are loading.
* Now when selecting colors for your menus or program options, you can also enter hex color codes (ie: #FF0000) manually by right-clicking on the color inputs.
* Extended the system info to include default operating system colors.
* Support for new Conical gradients offers new multiple interesting appearance options. Existing users should check out the new appearance before copyng their saved setup files over.
* Enhanced behavior... entries in the “Session History Menu” will now open in a new tab with a R-click or in the same tab with a left click. To dismiss it click on its top bar.
* Menu and Dialog box transparency is now selectable in the browser options under “Appearance schemes”.
* Browser RESET added by R-clicking on the program’s logo in the top left corner. This should restore leaked system memory if the browser ever gets sluggish, God forbid!
* Please see the online download matrix for a choice of Chromium Engine versions.
* No expense was spared to create this version… 24ct gold adorned with a ruby! ;)

The Classic Browser 2.7
v2.7 is now available for download...
-------------------------------------

* Most Scraping reports (Links, Images, Styling, Scripts, Resources) have been taken to the next level.

* A Bug with malformed URIs when reading cookies has been sorted.

* Node Trees have been sped up considerably.

* Now you can also change the style of menu buttons under "Setup > Button Styling".

* Now you can instantly perform a "Whois" lookup on websites via "Main Menu > Page Operations > Whois Lookup"

* Powerful Word Filtering on websites is now a fact with optional replacement words. "Main Menu > Page Operations > Filter Page" (kid's demo filter file included)

* Lots of little tweaks here and there but due to the festive season some changes/updates did not make this list! :)

* Currently testing Chromium Engine v63.0.3239.132 (two issues found... logs you out automatically and gets sluggish over time)

User question and answer:
-------------------------

Q. The U-tube downloading icons that appear on my system look different to yours…

A. That’s because your Windows has problems displaying some extended characters. To attempt to fix this problem, start by downloading the font “Arial Unicode MS” and dropping it in your C:\Windows\Fonts directory and restart.

Upon that failing, create a UTF-8 text file (R-click > SaveAs > UTF-8) on your desktop that contains a few of these extended characters and restart… this helps overcome an extended character bug created by Chrome, if you also happen to be a Chrome user.

NB: There are many more online suggestions to fix the complex extended character problem in Windows with varying degrees of success, but they are beyond the scope of this document.

Should you worry about browser fingerprinting?
----------------------------------------------

Browser fingerprinting is nothing but harmless statistical fun blown way out of proportion by countless online article authors having nothing better to do.

At best browser fingerprinting can “classify” a given system in a group of many other systems in terms of a percentage (that is systems that share the same hardware and software setup) so it certainly has a statistical use but it cannot possibly pinpoint to individuals/users.

Those who need to worry about being identified from their online activity should worry more about their public or local IP addresses which can lead directly to the user’s name and home address via a Police subpoena issued against their ISP.

NB: Be it known to you that your public IP address is given to websites (servers) by all browsers on a plate (via HTTP Headers) or the browser wouldn’t be able to receive the website's content! :)

IP address blocking
--------------------

A new round of IP address blocking was put into effect in the fight against spammers so once again we inform in case we've made a mistake and blocked someone we shouldn't have.
The vast majority we've blocked hail from the Ukrainian ISP "Kyivstar PJSC" and by the look of things we may have to completely block this seemingly lawless ISP soon.
Please write to us if you are no longer able to access our website directly. Thanks.

v2.6 is now available for download...
-------------------------------------

* Added Media Device details to system info and merged plugins and MIME types into one.

* Doubled the browser's scrolling speed affecting both Internet and internal pages.

* Managed a small decrease in startup memory consumption by disabling a chromium feature that is useless to us.

* Many gorgeous new color schemes for 2018 replace all the old. Now you can surf with class and style!

* Some changes in the appearance and bahavior of tabs, for the better.

* A new "Find" function button has been added to menus for when you can't find an entry.

* Fixed buggy behavior with the "page load cut-off" browser option.

* Corrected browser behavior trying to impose incompatible zooming on SVG images/anims.

* As always many miscellaneous smaller optimizations/refinements are included in this version.

* A mostly untested edition with the Chromium Engine v63.0.3239.108 is also available. One known issue... intermittently logs you out of member-sites! :)

Technical support for the XP version
------------------------------------

Please note that there's no technical support for the XP version of the program. It's already been superseded multiple times as well as the embedded v49 Chromium engine, so we're not surprised that some things aren't working or aren't rendering correctly. We don't recommend you use it unless you only have an XP computer and have no other choice. We're keeping it there for download for such people with the understanding that it does have its shortcomings which we cannot overcome. Thanks.

v2.5 is now available for download...
-------------------------------------

* The viewing filters that we can already apply to websites via Adjust Page (normal, grayscale, sepia, inversion, hue rotation) can now also be applied to all menus!
This should be good news to all those that are color blind or those looking for additional properties to further manipulate menu appearance.

* Further improved Text and Image scraping for superior and speedier extraction.

* The browser will no longer allow useless skinny scrollbars on the main body of a page, but all other scrollbar styling will remain unaffected.

* Extended System Info to include Windows environment variables.

* You can now edit pages "LIVE" in the browser via "Page Editor" in the Developer Tools and get a copy of the modified page via "Page Operations > Page Scraping > Extract Source > Dynamic". NB: This is intended for fun.

* Additional handy developer tools; Color Shade Picker and the Advanced Color Maker.

* Miscellaneous cosmetic changes and some code optimization/refinement.

* NB: The Chromium engine v63.0.3239.84 fails our tests so we're skipping it.

How to deal with the portable (ZIP) version:
--------------------------------------------

Right-click on the ZIP file in your Downloads folder and select "Extract all" from the little menu that appears, and then followed by "Extract".

Double-click on the new "Classic-W7.zip" folder that has now extracted to reveal the directory "The Classic Browser v2.x" inside it.

Now Right-Click Copy the directory "The Classic Browser v2.x" and Right-click Paste it to your root directory C:\ so you end up with a "C:\The Classic Browser v2.x".

Now you can just run the program directly from "C:\The Classic Browser v2.x" by double-clicking on "Classic.exe" or send a shortcut of this file to your desktop with R-click > Send to > Desktop.

NB: Never try to manually copy into "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files (x86)" because these are special system folders for installation programs only.

How to control sites/frames in Multi-Frame mode:
-------------------------------------------------

1. R-click on the Tab bar to reveal the "Browser Menu" as a keystroke reference.

2. Place your cursor over the frame you wish to operate on and click on it once.

3. Use the first 8 keyboard shortcuts listed in the Browser Menu to control the frame.

New bug reported...
-------------------

Bug: The cleanup batch file does not always clear "temp internet files".

Response: This could be a timing issue (if the batch file works ok when run directly)... try higher values for "timeout /t 2" in the batch file and see how that goes.

NB: The timeout is there to delay the cleanup process so as to give the computer time to remove (terminate) the browser from memory and thus UNLOCK all locked files.

NB: Emergency v2.4 archive replacement!
----------------------------------------

The latest archive Classic-W7.zip was replaced on: Tue Nov 21 2017 00:11:55 GMT+0200 (GTB Standard Time)

...With an emergency fix due to a discovered corruption (horrible bug) when closing tabs in Multi-Frame mode. This has now been corrected.

Apologies to all users for this and as a consolation gift for having to download the archive again you'll be pleased to hear that this fix also includes image extraction from "source sets".

Meaning that the image scraper will now also extract SETS OF IMAGES that are hidden under the "srcset" attribute, something that was previously not possible! Hint: Top Gear etc ;)

v2.4 is now available for download...
-------------------------------------

* Bug fix - Multi-Search refuses to go into Multi-Frame mode.

* Bug fix - On small notebooks dialog box buttons disappear.

* Bug fix - Tab history menus not updating as you navigate.

* Bug fix - Auto-download wrongly fetches the old Classic-W7.exe.

* The RSS/Attom feed viewer's control panel gets an updated look.

* New handy developer tools... Color Picker + Font Picker + Character Picker + Color Maker

* Extended the cleanup batch file's targets (See separate section below for details).

* Some tabs will now take about 1s to close because the browser now deletes every single element of the loaded page individually to encourage Chromium's "garbage collector" to take note and release the memory being held. We are desperately trying different things to get Chromium's God forsaken "memory manager" (read abysmal failure) to work!

Quickly answering misc user questions:
--------------------------------------

* We haven't upgraded to the latest Chromium engine because unfortunately they have all (v61 series/v62 series) failed our tests. Too many problems to list here... more importantly they get very sluggish with time!

* No, you cannot reset the browser (R-click on the logo) and keep opened tabs… you lose them because reset really means reset! :)

* We abandoned the idea of adding video conferencing because you need a server to act as a go-between. Direct browser to browser linking is currently not possible which is what we really wanted. :(

* Image extraction from "source sets" has been implemented and will be available in the next version. Works great but don't expect them in a separate tool because they'll all be mixed with normal images extracted.

About the Classic's cleanup batch file:
---------------------------------------

Upon program exit the Classic browser calls a special batch file (Cleanup.bat) to clean up a bunch of directories for housekeeping, safety and privacy including...

1. ...\AppData\Local\Temporary Internet Files (Completely emptied from v2.4 onwards)

2. ...\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files (Completely emptied from v2.4 onwards)

3. ...\AppData\Local\CEF (This directory is PRUNED from v2.4 onwards)

4. ...\AppData\Local\The Classic Browser (This directory is PRUNED) <-- Most important for your privacy

5. ...\AppData\Local\Temp (Completely emptied)

6. C:\Windows\Prefetch (Completely emptied)

7. C:\Windows\Temp (Completely emptied)

We can clean up a system much faster with a batch file than all those junk file cleaning programs can because we go directly via the operating system so it all happens in a fraction of a second.

Therefore, if you are in the habit of running the Classic browser simultaneously with other browsers then you might want to close the Classic browser *LAST* or it'll blow away
the contents of Temporary Internet Files meaning that Chrome/Edge/Firefox will have to reload any open pages and/or maybe even lose login connections! :)

Alternatively, you can edit Cleanup.bat by adding a (REM or a period) in front of the relevant lines to comment out specific instructions you don't want.

If you are comfortable modifying batch files then by all means do so but if you need help to make some custom changes feel free to write to us.

We also welcome suggestions for improvement to this batch file. Do we have a batch programming expert who can go through the cleanup script (Cleanup.bat) and give us their feedback? Thanks.
