Icaros to zestaw narzędzi rozszerzeń powłoki systemu Windows, które wyświetlają miniatury plików multimedialnych w oknach Eksploratora Windows. Obsługuje różne typy multimediów, takie jak miniatury albumów, pliki wideo, pliki audio i inne. W zasadzie wyświetli miniaturę każdego formatu multimediów obsługiwanego przez FFmpeg (wieloplatformowy projekt, którego celem jest dostarczenie kompletnej platformy do nagrywania, konwertowania i przesyłania strumieniowego treści audiowizualnych).

Icaros obsługuje obecnie pliki FLAC, MP3, MP4, OGG, MP4, MOV, MKV i FLV, a także kilka innych. Generuje miniatury dla wielu formatów i jeśli to możliwe, wyświetla więcej informacji o plikach po najechaniu myszą na plik lub sprawdzeniu jego właściwości.
Program jest bardzo łatwy w użyciu, a ustawienia można dostosowywać. Możemy zmienić odstępy między miniaturami, zmodyfikować pliki, które analizuje i inne. Może także wyświetlać okładki (w formatach BMP, JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF) i inne informacje zapisane w plikach MP3 wykorzystując tagi ID3. Posiada własną pamięć podręczną, która przyspiesza wyświetlanie miniaturek.

Jeśli chodzi o interfejs, aplikacja wyświetla kompleksowe i proste okno główne, w którym można aktywować i dezaktywować miniatury. Po ich aktywacji wszystkie obsługiwane pliki multimedialne wideo wyświetlają odpowiednie miniatury.
Zasadniczo wszystko, co obsługuje FFmpeg, powinno zostać przeanalizowane przez rozszerzenia programu. Ogólnie rzecz biorąc przydatny program, szczególnie jeśli dużo pracuje się z plikami multimedialnymi.

Icaros Shell Extensions to zestaw rozszerzeń powłoki Windows przeznaczony do wyświetlania miniatur w Eksploratorze Windows dla niemal wszystkich rodzajów plików wideo. Zestaw jest również w stanie wyświetlać miniaturki okładek osadzonych w plikach audio (okładki w formatach BMP, JPG, PNG, GIF i TIFF).

Icaros współpracuje z formatami MKV, FLV, AVI, MP4, MOV, RM, RMVB, M2TS, OGM, FLAC, MPC, APE oraz MP3. Potrafi również generować miniatury dla wielu innych plików, wystarczy wpisać odpowiednie formaty w okienku z ustawieniami i reaktywować zestaw rozszerzeń. Dzięki tej aplikacji możliwe jest także wyświetlanie większej liczby informacji o multimediach w Eksploratorze (np. we właściwościach pliku lub po najechaniu kursorem myszki na miniaturkę).
