PotPlayer to darmowy, łatwy w obsłudze odtwarzacz multimediów o ogromnych możliwościach. Powstał jako kontynuacja bardzo popularnego odtwarzacza KMplayer. Pozwala odtwarzać pliki audio i wideo w wielu popularnych formatach, płyty DVD i Blu-ray, katalogi ze strukturą AVCHD, sygnał z tunerów telewizyjnych czy strumienie internetowe. Nie ma problemów z odtwarzaniem materiałów w wysokiej rozdzielczości (HD).

Program domyślnie jest skonfigurowany tak, aby już po starcie odtwarzać z jak najlepszą jakością.
PotPlayer obsługuje szeroką gamę audio (m.in. WAV, WMA, MP3, OGG, M4A, AAC, RA, FLAC, MOD, APE, AC3) i wideo (m.in. AVI, WMV, ASF, MPEG, M2V, MTS, DPG, WebM, AMV, DivX), rozpoznaje także różne formaty odtwarzania (np. M3U, ASX, PLS, wvx, CUE). Posiada wsparcie dla plików wideo w archiwach ZIP i RAR.

Daje możliwość kontroli nad funkcjami, umożliwiając zmianę prędkości video, dostosowanie głośności, zmniejszenie lub zwiększenie kontrastu czy jasności. Odtwarza napisy z ich dowolną konfigurację, obsługuje skórki dzięki czemu, można dopasować wygląd odtwarzacza do swoich upodobań. Obsługuje skróty klawiaturowe pozwalając uprościć obsługę podstawowych działań (otwieranie menu, zmiana rozmiaru okna lub szerokości ramki). Umożliwia tworzenie profili ustawień, pozwalając na szybką zmianę w odtwarzaniu materiału na komputerze lub telewizorze, czy sprzęcie audio.
