Group of US rights holders sues VPN providers for their contribution to hacking

Several film companies have decided to hold VPN services responsible for users' pirating of their content. They ask the American justice to impose on suppliers the blocking of pirate sites, but not only.

providers . They filed, on August 24, a joint complaint on the office of the judge of the United States District Court for the District of Virginia, in Alexandria. In the latter, production companies hope to impose new obligations on VPN providers, who are increasingly popular and responsible, they say, for pirating their content.

Rights holders demand the blocking of pirate sites and the recording of user data by VPNs

On the list of complainants, we find Millenium Funding, Dallas Buyers Club, The Hitman's Bodyguard, Rambo V Productions, Bodyguard Productions and Morgan Creek Productions. In their sights: well-known providers like SurfShark VPN, ExpressVPN, ZenMate VPN or VPN Unlimited. All are charged with widespread copyright infringement.
