RARLAB's RAR for Android is an all-in-one, original, free, simple, easy and quick compression program, archiver, assistant, extractor, manager and even a basic file explorer.

RAR for Android can create RAR and ZIP and unpack RAR, ZIP, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, 7z, ISO, ARJ archives. List of functions include repair command for damaged ZIP and RAR files, benchmark function compatible with RARLAB's WinRAR benchmark, recovery record, usual and recovery volumes, encryption, solid archives, utilizing multiple CPU cores to compress data.

Additionally to standard ZIP files, unzip function supports ZIP and ZIPX with BZIP2, LZMA and PPMd compression also as password protected ZIP. Unrar command is available for all versions of RAR archives including the latest RAR5, password protected and multipart files.

Previous build opened files like .docx or .apk, which use ZIP data format internally, as archives. Now tapping on such files opens them in associated applications. Long press such file and select "Open as archive" in context menu to open it as ZIP archive.

Contents of folder with extracted files is displayed on completion of extraction command, so you can start working with files immediately. If you do not like it, turn off "Display extracted files" option in extraction dialog. You can store the default state of this option with "Save settings" button in this dialog.

Also RAR displays the folder with newly created archive on completion of archiving command. It might be useful if archive has been created in non-current folder.

This item is related only to devices with Android 4.4 and external (removable) SD card.

Beginning from Android 4.4, Android allows RAR to write only to "Android/data/com.rarlab.rar" folder on external SD card. So we provided ways to access "Android/data/com.rarlab.rar/files" quickly from RAR interface. We use "external SD card home" name for this folder.

This folder is proposed when tapping on "Destination path" button in extraction dialog and on "Archive name" button in archiving dialog. It is set by default in archiving and extraction dialogs if current folder is read-only on external SD card.

Links to root of external SD card (read-only) and to external SD card home (writable) are added to favorites in navigation panel after fresh RAR install or after deleting all favorites.

Be aware that entire contents of this writable external SD card home folder including subfolders is deleted when uninstalling RAR application or clearing RAR data in application manager. Be sure to copy your data from this folder before taking such actions.
Type of current folder (SD card, external SD card, external SD card home or archive format in case of archive) is displayed at the bottom right of top "Up one level" item in file list. External SD card information is displayed only for Android 4.4 devices.

Build 16 crashed after extraction if destination folder did not exist and could not be created. Fixed now.

RAR can accept more formats through "Share" command. For example, pictures shared from Android Gallery.

Thumbnails for non-archived image files such as .jpg. You can turn them off with "Show thumbnails" option in settings;
Long press any checkbox in file list to access advanced selection options such as select all or by mask.
Folder management icons (refresh, up one/multiple levels) at the top of screen in navigation panel. "Refresh" and "Go to root" are removed from "Commands" at panel left side.
Status displays information about selected files.

Memory requirements are lower for .7z decompression. Previous versions could not unpack .7z archives larger than available random access memory, which is possible now.
RAR prevents Android from sleeping while archiving or extracting command is not finished and RAR window is visible.

Added extraction support for ZIP and ZIPX archives using XZ compression algorithm.
If ZIP or ZIPX archive contains any algorithms except usual "Store" or "Deflate", algorithm names are displayed in "Version to unpack" field of archive information dialog.
Fixed a crash when reparing a single volume from mutivolume ZIP archive.
Added a warning message when displaying contents of truncated archives.

We added advertising to cover development costs. Had to do it to be able to continue improving RAR. Permissions required for ads are added. Ads frequency is limited to reasonable level. You can pay in options menu to disable ads.
New "Paths" section in settings includes default extraction path and extraction history. Start-up folder was also moved to this section. Press "Destination folder" button in extraction dialog to select from list with history and other proposed paths.

More elements of material design, also when running in pre-5.0 Android.
"Remember for N minutes" option in password dialog when extracting allows to remember an entered password for specified number of minutes and apply it to all extraction commands during this time.
RAR opens epub and similar files, which are zip internally, in associated app instead of displaying their contents as archive. Also RAR attempts to display icon of associated app for such files.

RAR for Android 5.20.build31

Fixed crash after long pressing text in "Rename" dialog.
Several less frequently used options moved to "General" subscreen in settings. "About RAR" moved to toolbar. New "Name encoding" option allows to specify encoding for non-English file names in non-Unicode archives, typically ZIP. Most encodings are available only from Android 4.4.
Archiving, extraction and other commands work even if screen is turned off. WAKE_LOCK permission is added to implement it.

Write access to external SD card in Android 5.0. You will need to permit RAR to write to external card in a special window displayed before the first such operation.
If command is completed with errors, "Background" button in command window is changed to "Copy errors", so you can copy errors text to clipboard and paste it in another application.
In some cases RAR could not recognize passwords pasted from clipboard. Fixed now.

Added extraction of 7-Zip .zip.001, .zip.002 multipart ZIP and .001, .002 split files. Open .zip.001 or .001 file to browse or unpack such archive.
Archive test command works for tar.gz, tar.bz2 and tar.xz archives. TAR format does not provide file data checksums, so only validity of GZIP, BZIP2 or XZ container is verified.
"Browse for folder/archive" dialogs work correctly also in right to left languages now.
Cyrillic names support in ZIP also in pre-4.4 Android.

File list scrollbar moved to left to not interfere with checkboxes.
RAR volumes renamed from usual .part1.rar, .part2.rar to .001, .002 are processed correctly now.
Context menu "Copy to clipboard" command does not change contents of system wide clipboard anymore and works with RAR internal buffer only. To copy selected file names to system wide text clipboard and paste them as text to some other app such as text editor, use "Copy names" button in "Options/Information" dialog.

File sizes less than 1 KB are displayed in bytes, less than 1 MB in kilobytes, less than 1 GB in megabytes. Previously it was in bytes up to 1 MB and in kilobytes up to 1 GB.
When extracting a single selected folder from 7z archive, extraction stopped after unpacking the first file contained in such folder. This bug did not happen when unpacking the entire archive or single selected file. Fixed now.

1. "Paste" and "Remove paste button" buttons are displayed on the toolbar after copying files to clipboard. You can use "Paste" button instead of context menu to paste files. Context menu "Paste" command is available too. Long press "Paste" button to see names of files to paste.
2. Top file list item displays SD card total and free sizes for folders and unpacked and packed sizes for archives.
