Web Malware Protection

SurfCanister automatically launches supported browsers inside isolated or virtual environment as per user’s request. Due to its isolated and virtual environment it protects the system from known as well as un-known ( zero day ) web malware threats while browsing.

Protect Browser Exploits

While browsing when user unknowingly visits the malicious web site, malware tries to exploit bugs in browser or browser plug-in code so that it could run its executable code on users system. Once exploited malware tries to install itself on users system and then do the targeted things which intended by malware writer. In such a scenario, SurfCanister does not allow malware to modify critical parts of the system as well as it gets installed in a isolated ( virtual ) environment making it non-active and dead when user logs off or system is rebooted.

Protects Users Identity

While browsing the web and while banking and shopping online, user’s confidential information gets exposed and stored inside the browsing cache by the browser.There is always a threat that this confidential information may get stolen by malware or malicious activities including credit card number, social security number, bank user name and password etc. SurfCanister does isolate the browsing cache and operating system resources and gives one click option to cleanup this browsing cache. This in turn removes the malware traces if any as well as user’s confidential information stored by the browser such as credit card number, social security number, bank user name and password etc and hence protects the user’s identity.

User Interface

Using SurfCanister user interface, user could select different security levels such as High, Medium or Low depending on users need for running different type of browsers, browser plug-ins or document applications to keep a balance of security as well as usability. It also shows color border around the main window of browser or document applications running inside SurfCanister environment for indicating safe browsing. However user could select or change this color border as per users liking. User could also disable the SurfCanister protection temporarily whenever user wants to install browser, browser plug-in, web application or its software update.

Protect Confidential Data

Once the malware gets executed on users system because of browser exploit or browsers plug-in exploit or users unknowingly click on any bad or malicious web link it could steal or destroy user’s valuable or confidential data. However even if malware gets executed by any mechanism while browsing inside SurfCanister environment, it does protect user’s valuable or confidential data. Data or documents inside the folders includes standard user folders ( if user has specified high or medium security level for safe browsing ) and folders which specified by user through SurfCanister’s user interface.

User Interface

Using SurfCanister user interface, user could select different type of folders which could be protected while browsing inside SurfCanister environment. User could select different type of folders such as confidential folders which will be hidden, protected folders which will have read only access where as direct access folders which will have direct read / write access to the folders from the browsers or document applications running inside the SurfCanister environment. Depending upon user’s requirement user could enable / disable any of these data protections. User selected folders are protected at all safe browsing security levels unless safe browsing protection is disabled.
