GNS3 to graficzny symulator sieci, który pozwala stworzyć sieć wirtualną. Nie potrzebujesz żadnego sprzętu, takiego jak routery, przełączniki, a nawet punkty końcowe (komputery stacji roboczych). To narzędzie typu open source może być przydatne do konfigurowania sieci lokalnej w biurze lub w innych środowiskach, a także do rozwiązywania problemów.

Narzędzie to jest idealne do przeprowadzania laboratoriów z budowy i administrowania sieciami. Docenią je w szczególności osoby ubiegające się o certyfikaty CCNA, CCNP, CCIP, CCIE, JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIE. Istnieje możliwość przeprowadzania symulowanych ataków sieciowych.
