Waterfox G6.6.5.1

  • Tree Vertical Tabs would continue running in the background even when disabled in Settings. This is now fixed, so turning off Tree Vertical Tabs actually unloads the extension and can reduce memory usage.
  • Tree Vertical Tabs options were incorrectly shown at the bottom of Preferences/Settings → General on first load. They now only appear under the dedicated “Tree Vertical Tabs” category.

Waterfox 6.6.7

  • Firefox import fix:
  • Fixed an issue that prevented importing Firefox data on Windows. Even if you have already setup Waterfox, you can still import your data via Settings (about:preferences) → General → Import browser data.

Waterfox 6.6.8

General

  • When importing data from another browser, empty profiles no longer appear in the selection list.
  • Added an Unload Tab option to the tab context menu to free memory without closing the tab.
  • Unloaded tabs now show a wireframe preview (after the tab has been active at least once).
  • Fixed an issue where the Show duplicate tab menu item option did nothing on the Settings page.
  • Updated search engine aliases so they no longer take over single-character shortcuts, allowing you to assign them as you wish:
    • Google: @g → @go
    • Bing: @b → @bi
    • Ecosia: @e → @ec
    • Mojeek: @m → @mo
    • Qwant: @q → @qw
    • Waterfox Private Search: @w → @wps
  • JPEG XL images should look better (thanks to

    ):
    • The decoder now uses a higher quality blue noise dithering pattern to cut down on visible banding, and its upscaling step clamps overshoot to avoid haloing when enlarging images.
    • Color handling is more reliable; improved ICC/CMYK processing means images with embedded color profiles should match their intended colors more consistently.
    • General JPEG XL stability/performance tweaks from the upstream library: tighter buffering and math paths that should make decoding a bit smoother and less crash-prone.
  • Security fixes for

macOS

  • Waterfox on macOS now supports Web Authentication (passkeys) for compatible sites.
  • With the future release of macOS 26.3 and later, Waterfox will work with the iCloud Passwords extension.
Info
Users on macOS 14 → macOS 15.3 are already able to use the iCloud Passwords extension, but starting with macOS 15.4 Apple introduced a whitelist of supported browsers. Waterfox was added to this list in December 2025 and will be available with the next macOS release.

Windows

  • Windows builds now come bundled with the required Visual Studio redistributable files, meaning Waterfox will run on a fresh Windows install even if no other programs have been installed yet.
  • Removed the survey checkbox from the uninstaller.

Pale Moon 34.0.0

v34.0.0 (2026-01-20)

This is a new milestone release! There are many changes in thismilestone; the most important ones are highlighted here.

New features:

  • Our default theme on Windows received a refresh and update. It should integrate better with Windows 11 now, and be more responsiveto dark accent colors, among other things.
  • Implemented WeakRef. See implementation notes.
  • Implemented URL.canParse().
  • Implemented the inset-block and inset-inlineCSS shorthands.
  • Added a preference (privacy.forgetaboutsite.clearPasswords)to control clearing of passwords whenusing "forget about this site" in the permissions manager, and disabledclearing of passwords by default, since it was considered unexpectedbehavior by the community.
  • Changed our JavaScript PRNG to Xoroshiro128++ to make itmore robust while keeping high performance.
Important updates and fixes:

  • Re-landed CSS Cascade Layers support after the previousback-out.
  • Re-landed CSS color-mix support after theprevious back-out. RGB and HSL color spaces only, like previous.
  • Implemented viewport overflow propagation logic. Seeimplementation notes.
  • Unprefixed CSS -moz-appearance; Pale Moon nowaccepts the unprefixed CSS appearance keyword. Forcompatibility, -moz-appearance and -webkit-appearance(if enabled) have been retained, although the long-term plan is toeventually remove the -moz prefixed one, so if you are an extension ortheme developer, please consider switching your CSS to use appearancewithout a prefix.
  • Fixed an intermittent but fairly prominent crash-to-desktopdue to JavaScript garbage collection on certain modern sites.
  • Fixed a crash on sites with certain types of CSP handling.
  • Fixed a crash in WASM.
  • Updated NSS to 3.90.9 (custom) to pick up several securityand stability fixes.
  • Updated ICU to v78.1. This is a major uplift for ourinternationalization subsystem, allowing further future developmentsfor the Internationalization API.
  • Updated Emoji support to Unicode 17.
  • Updated our expat parser code to a more recent version(2.7.3), fixing various issues.
  • Improved handling and rendering of emoji clusters.
Other changes:

  • Added support for building on Sparc64 hardware.
  • Added support for building for NetBSD on Alpha.
  • Added basic support for building on Mac PowerPC (still awork in progress).
  • Added basic support for building on LoongArch64 hardware (龍芯 CPUs).
  • Added support for running on FreeBSD 15.
  • Removed automatic coloring of auto-filled login fields asit would interfere with various browser and system color schemes.
If preferred, this can be reinstated by users with a userContent.cssdocument or e.g. the Stylem extension by leveraging the :autofillCSS pseudo-class.
  • Restored support for in-process NPAPI plugins, allowingplugin use on systems where out-of-process is undesirable.
  • Improved JavaScript IonMonkey stability on ARM and Mac SoChardware.
  • Linux GTK builds now always build with gio, and gconfsupport has been removed.
  • Security issues addressed: CVE-2025-13015, CVE-2026-0879 (DiD), CVE-2026-0880 (DiD), CVE-2026-0889 (DiD), CVE-2026-0883,CVE-2026-0886 (DiD), andseveral others without a CVE designation.
Implementation notes:

  • This milestone implements WeakRef in theplatform in 2 modes, controlled by a new preference javascript.options.weakrefs.In the default mode (false), WeakRef does not allow pagecontent to reach into the JavaScript engine to coerce garbagecollection, while still offering the front-end API to web content(effectively creating a stub). The other mode (true)allows this coersion and gives potentially malicious web scripting some* control over the JavaScriptgarbage collector. It is notrecommended to set this to true for general use.Only enable this if your situation is running trusted code andexplicitly requires nudging the JavaScript engine to dereferenceobjects. We resisted having this strongly discouraged and potentiallydangerous API at all, but some sites started to use WeakRefunconditionally and breaking without the API front-end, so thiscompromise was implemented, leaving control in the hands of the user.
    * The spec only allows for code to hint/coerce and does not guaranteeif or when dereferencing happens.
  • A number of sites (including some top Internet sites) havestarted using overflow-x: clip without overflow-yon full-document elements (document root/<html> or <body>).While doing this makes little to no logical sense, our strictimplementation of clip (since 33.9.0, also see theimplementation notes there) would, as a result, create unscrollablepages. There is some special logic for this (viewport overflowpropagation) described in the relevant drafts which we have nowimplemented, updating our overflow: clip implementationto avoid the previously problematic strict behaviour in theseparticular cases.
