Mp3tag jest darmowym i rozbudowanym programem do edycji tagów, które są niczym innym jak informacjami tekstowymi zawartymi w plikach muzycznych. Program odczytuje metadane w formacie ID3v1, ID3v2.3, ID3v2.4, iTunes MP4, WMA, Vorbis Comments oraz APE Tags.

Funkcje programu:
- automatyczne tworzenie playlist,
- seryjne usuwanie części informacji w wielu plikach jednocześnie,
- zmiana nazw plików na podstawie tagów,
- uzupełnianie tagów na podstawie nazwy pliku i jego lokalizacji,
- eksport informacji zawartych w tagach do plików HTML, RTF, CSV,
- import informacji o plikach z lokalnej lub internetowej bazy freedb, Amazon, discogs, MusicBrainz.

Zmiany w wersji Mp3tag 2.56:
- updated Danish, French, Hebrew, Russian, Slovenian and Turkish translations.
- updated TAK library to TAK 2.3.0.
- FIX: Performing update check occasionally resulted in runtime error.
- FIX: Changing option to show only user-defined genres had no effect until restarting Mp3tag.

FIX: runtime error when closing Mp3tag if Mp3tagSettings.zip was locked or user had no write permission.
FIX: duplicate message in preview of converter 'Text-file - Tag' for previous file in case no matching file entry was found in text file.
FIX: file dialog at converter 'Text-file - Tag' now does not ask for creation of files anymore.
FIX: removing files from file list ocassionally resulted in runtime error (since v2.59b).
FIX: tab order in various dialogs was wrong.
