. Narzędzie rezyduje w zasobniku systemowym - wyświetlane tam są powiadomienia dotyczące statusu i aktualnie wykonywanych operacji. Po dwukrotnym naciśnięciu na ikonę obszaru powiadomień zostaniemy przeniesieni do interfejsu, który dostępny jest z poziomu przeglądarki internetowej. W nim zmieniamy ustawienia serwera.

Kolekcja multimedialna stworzona przy pomocy Plex Media Server ma hierarchiczną strukturę. Dane są podzielone na sekcje, które mogą zawierać zdjęcia, muzykę lub filmy. Każda z nich posiada nazwę, katalogi lokalnego dysku twardego oraz zestaw właściwości (skaner, agent metadanych, język). Zawartość biblioteki może być odświeżana automatycznie (w przypadku wykrycia zmian), okresowo bądź na żądanie użytkownika (odpowiednia opcja znajduje się w menu).

Warte uwagi są dodatkowe funkcje związane z plikami multimedialnymi. Do dyspozycji mamy na przykład wygodny edytor metadanych. Inne ciekawe opcje to: automatyczne wczytywanie napisów w danym języku, zmiana nazwy serwera, dzielenie danych z iTunes/iPhoto/Aperture, obsługa baz danych (Freebase, Wikipedia, MoviePoster, TheMovie, OpenSubtitles, Last.fm i inne).

Narzędzie posiada modularną budowę - część funkcji jest dostępna w postaci pluginów. Po rejestracji na serwerach producenta (konto myPlex) możemy także współdzielić ustawienia i multimedia pomiędzy rozproszonymi serwerami.
