AlomWare Toolbox 6.1.1.0

  • Change: When testing if an application process is running from an assigned string you must now wrap the process name in braces like "{string$}", and not use just "string$" as in previous Toolbox releases.
  • Change: The clipboard history setting called "Enable history (remember all cut/copied items)" has been split into two new settings: "Enable text history (remember cut/copied text)" and "Enable image history (remember cut/copied images)". This allows you to only remember text or images separately.
  • Bug fix: For the "Window: Save as opening state" step.
  • Bug fix: For windows saved to auto-open as maximized or minimized.
  • Bug fix: For applying a saved window state of "app name" type (instead of the "initial" and "ready" types).
  • Bug fix: When hitting the Enter key on the Command Box (would sometimes not do the command but accidentally insert a new line instead).
  • Bug fix: For taskbar thumbnail images not showing if the tweak setting called "Volume HUD is shown with keyboard changes" is disabled.
  • Bug fix: For automated actions that test the winexe$ variable, such as: "Action: Continue if winexe$=notepad.exe".
  • Bug fix: For "Web: Assign" when the URL has spaces and other non-web characters in it. Now the URL is correctly encoded to %20 for spaces, etc.
  • Addition: New setting to enable/disable capturing a PC state with Left+Right Shift and Left+Right Ctrl keys. The setting is also disabled by default.
  • Enhancement: The Power menu option for setting a window's opening position now supports centering the window over the mouse.
  • Enhancement: The "Window: Move to desktop position" step now supports a value of "mouse", to center the assigned window over the mouse.
  • New action variable: "dn$", which holds the day number of the year (1-366).
  • New action variable: "wn$", which holds the week number of the year (1-52).
  • New automation step: "Action: Save variables as", to save the action's variables for later re-use.
  • New automation step: "Action: Use variables from", to load variables for use that were previously saved.
  • New automation step: "Action: Delete variables", to delete variables saved from an action.
  • New automation step: "Computer: Close all folders", to close all folders that are currently open. Tip: You can re-open them again from the "Map" tab.
  • New automation step: "Computer: Set active folder as", to set the active (not assigned) folder to use the specified view whenever it's opened. The views that can be set are: Extra Large Icons, Large Icons, Medium Icons, Small Icons, List, Details, Tiles, and Content.
  • New automation step: "File: Assign from newest in", which assigns the file that is the newest in the specified folder (but not subfolders) to be used by all "File" steps. For example, you could use this step to know which file was last saved to the desktop if you specify "desk$" for the folder.
  • New automation step: "String: Get last chars", to change the assigned string to be the last # characters of itself.
  • New automation step: "String: Get line number", to change the assigned string to be only line number # of itself.
  • New default action called "ComputerSelect the newest desktop file", which shows the desktop and then selects the newest file that was saved there. No longer do you need to struggle to find the latest downloaded file!
  • New multiple default actions called "FoldersSet folder view as [...]", which switches the active folder's view to the specified type (Extra Large Icons, Large Icons, Medium Icons, Small Icons, List, Details, Tiles, and Content). This means you can use the Power menu to automatically make any folder open into the specified view, by setting the opening state to run one of these new default actions.
  • Maintenance: Other miscellaneous internal bug and stability fixes, code optimisations, and cosmetic text changes.

AlomWare Toolbox 6.1.1.1

===== v6.1.1.1 (31 Oct 2025) =====

Bug fix: For saving window opening states and PC states, and for the "windoc$" variable.

Bug fix: For folder windows set to auto-maximize when opened.

Bug fix: For screenshots of system notifications.

Bug fix: For the icons shown in the "Screenshots" list.

Bug fix: For auto-positioning windows to other than where the OS decides.

Bug fix: For not adding clipboard text to the history list for banned apps.

Bug fix: When using "Re-apply this window's opening state now" from the Power menu.

New automation step: "Computer: Use audio device", to set the PC to use the specified audio device by its name. Now you can switch from headphones to speakers (and vice-versa) from a hotkey, or automatically from an action such as when a specific window becomes active.

Addition: Included Vivaldi as an additional supported web browser for automated actions.

Addition: There is now an "Edit step" button above the step list. You can still double-click a step to edit it.

Addition: Option for the Step list to have line numbers shown at the right of them. Enable this in Settings (under "Automated actions"), or just click a step to see its line number in the status bar.

Enhancement: The icon for "Notifications" in the Screenshot list is now a speech bubble for better visibility.

Enhancement: If an action is copied to the clipboard and you press Ctrl+V on the Step Chooser window, the Step Chooser will now either close and create a new action if no action was currently selected, or the action steps in the clipboard are pasted into the currently-selected action.

Maintenance: Other miscellaneous internal bug and stability fixes, code optimisations, and cosmetic text changes.

AlomWare Toolbox 7.0.0.0

  • Removed: The keyboard tweak to auto-close pairs of: " ( { [
  • Removed: The "Window: Assign active" step. Use the updated "Window: Assign" step instead (see below).
  • Bug fix: For a crash on app startup when it's been set to dim its windows.
  • Bug fix: For hotkeys not working for an action when it has been renamed.
  • Bug fix: For some column widths not being restored correctly to their saved widths.
  • Bug fix: For buttons sometimes disappearing from their list headers (such as the "Stop" button on the "Running actions" list).
  • Bug fix: For the option of auto-removing "mailto:" from copied email addresses in the clipboard (got broken in a recent release).
  • Bug fix: For when asking for a single line of text, the text might sometimes accidentally include the final "Enter" keystroke by mistake.
  • Bug fix: For PC state restorations, where changing the window title of an item will cause it not to be found. Now editing the window title is not permitted, as it never actually should have been.
  • Preventative fix: For a race condition issue with other apps that monitor the clipboard, where they didn't follow Microsoft's guidelines and thus cause AlomWare Toolbox to miss some clipboard text.
  • Major change: Free temporary unlock codes are now available at AlomWare.com for free/trial users, removing the need to enter a usage code every day (or at every launch in a day). We'd still prefer you to pay for a license. ;)
  • Addition: New PC tweak for Windows 11 which lets you always see system tray icons for supported apps, with supported meaning apps that show such an icon. Normally you'd need to manually enable these to be seen with Win 11 in the Taskbar settings, but now you can see them all automatically. Enable this tweak in AlomWare Toolbox's Settings here: "Tweaks for your PC > Windows > Win 11+ specific > Always show system tray icons for supported apps".
  • Addition: New PC tweak which lets you optionally auto-remove blank lines before and after copied text.
  • Major enhancement: You can now choose which tabs to show in the window (such as "Calendar", "Notes", etc) and also in which order from left to right. Requires an app restart when changed. Set your tab preferences in Settings here: "Toolbox's window > Display and behavior > Set the tab order (and/or tabs not to show)."
  • Major enhancement: Saving a window's opening state now supports partial window titles by prefixing them with question mark. For example, you could specify "? - Notepad" so that any Notepad window will be matched and opened where you wanted.
  • Major enhancement: Macro recording for keystrokes and mouse clicks can now be done and locked to a single window, no matter where the window is located on the desktop. When the macro is later played back, the window will auto-resize itself to match its original recorded size.
  • Enhancement: The "Window: Assign" steps now supports "active" as a value, to assign the active window. This replaces the removed "Window: Assign active" step.
  • Enhancement: The "Alert: Ask for a file as" automation step now has an "All files" option for when you specify a single file type. So if you specify "JPG" as the sole type, and you can't see the file you want (because maybe it's got an extension of "JPEG" or "JFIF" instead), then you can select "All files" as the filter to see and select it.
  • Enhancement: Restoring a PC state is now much faster as there was doubled-up code that tried to restore a given window twice, instead of just once. This led to 2 x five-second timeouts for all windows instead of just one timeout for each.
  • Enhancement: Copying an action with long steps will now split the long steps over several lines, making it easier and cleaner to share the action text (such as by email).
  • Enhancement: The "Folder: Sort files into sub-folders by" automation step now lets you sort the assigned folder's files into a sub-folder named "Toolbox Sorted Files" by alphabetical title, date, extension, or type.
  • Enhancement: Actions for the Dock and the app's system tray menu now use the action's first step for its icon, making it easier to see what the Dock or tray icon does. You can use the "Action: Use icon" step to override this.
  • Enhancement: Due to popular request, you can now add reminders in the past, for times when you want to see how long ago something occurred. These get added in the "Arrived" tab at the relevant time position.
  • Enhancement: Clicking an "Arrived" or "Missed" item in the "Calendar" tab now shows how long ago the event occurred in the status bar (in "years, months, weeks, days" format).
  • Enhancement: For visual feedback, adding reminders now auto-selects them in the "Current" list (or "Arrived" list when adding old reminders), so you can see them easily in their relevant time position.
  • Enhancement: Adding default actions (via the Action Wizard) will no longer overwrite any existing actions that might have a default action's name.
  • Enhancement: Right-clicking the LED icon in the system tray will now show AlomWare Toolbox's pop-up menu (just like right-clicking its app icon).
  • New automation step: "Toolbox: Enable keyboard monitoring", so you can switch this on or off as needed, which is handy for non-English keyboards.
  • New automation step: "Toolbox: Filter action list with", so you can filter the action list with a hotkey or other trigger.
  • New automation step: "Toolbox: Filter clipboard list with", so you can filter the clipboard list with a hotkey or other trigger.
  • New automation step: "Toolbox: Filter note list with", so you can filter the note list with a hotkey or other trigger.
  • New automation step: "Toolbox: Filter screenshot lists with", so you can filter the screenshot lists with a hotkey or other trigger.
  • New window variable: "winmax$", which is 1 if the assigned window is maximized (and 0 if not).
  • New window variable: "winmin$", which is 1 if the assigned window is minimized (and 0 if not).
  • Maintenance: Other miscellaneous internal bug and stability fixes, code optimisations, and cosmetic text changes.
