Stream Foo Fighters’ London Taylor Hawkins Tribute Show

The first of Foo Fighters' two planned tribute shows to their late drummer Taylor Hawkins happened yesterday at London's Wembley Stadium.

It was waiting a number of special guests lined up for the occasion, including Travis Barker, Nandi Bushell, Martin Chambers, Chris Chaney, Chevy Metal, Stewart Copeland, Josh Freese, Liam Gallagher, Violet Grohl, Omar Hakim, Justin Hawkins, Shane Hawkins, Joshua Homme, Chrissie Hynde, James Gang, Alain Johannes, Brian Johnson, John Paul Jones, Kesha, Greg Kurstin, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Brian May, Krist Novoselic, Nile Rodgers, Mark Ronson, Luke Spiller, Supergrass, Roger Taylor, Rufus Taylor, Lars Ulrich, Nate Wood, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Dave Chappelle.

This sunday Toyah & Robert Fripp covered Pantera’s “5 Minutes Alone”.

They only needed about two minutes, however. Toyah was ready for the ring with boxing gloves on, and Robert looked like he'd been on the losing end of a fight.

This week's edition of Toyah and Robert Fripp's Sunday Lunch series is a reposting of their 2020 cover of David Bowie's “Heroes.”

They originally performed it for Victory in Europe Day, but they've put it up again in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, writing, “Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp wish to extend condolences to the Royal Family, and respect the dedication HRH Elizabeth II showed her country during her unprecedented reign. The Sunday Lunch series is paused to play 'Heroes' in acknowledgement of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen.”

Robert Fripp knows this one pretty well, as he played guitar on Bowie's original. At the beginning of the video, Toyah showed two cards with the following text:
“Thank you to a generation who gave so much.”
“You are our HEROES.”

Then, while singing, she showed the next cards and two photos:
“Uncle Bill Fripp”
“Bill helped plan the great escape.”
“My Daddy stationed in the Mediterranean.”
“My Hero.”

At the end, she showed three more cards:
“Thank you colonel TOM MOORE.”
“Dame VERA LYNN. We love you.”
“You are all HEROES.”

This week kicks off a season of rather different Sunday Lunches. Let’s just say Toyah & Robert are not alone in the kitchen...

After taking last week off, Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox have returned with another Sunday Lunch with a special guest, Chesney Hawkes.

Only they didn't do much. Well, there is Toyah and her baseball bat… By the way, Chesney Hawkes was playing and singing his song ‘The One And Only.’

That's another day at the Fripp / Wilcox house. Robert's in lederhosen and Toyah's in a maid's uniform. Toyah used her baseball bat to hit buns off the head of Robert Fripp, who had shown great courage in this situation.

The inscription on the kitchen cupboard: “Toyah and Robert's Interlude.”

Watch Nine Inch Nails reunite withformer members, cover ‘Hey Man Nice Shot’. Trent Reznor welcomes back Filter frontman Richard Patrick, Chris Vrenna, Danny Lohner and Charlie Clouser at Rock Hall event.

Although Trent Reznor and company were inducted into the Rock Hall in 2020, the event was scaled down to a television-only special due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A Cleveland celebration was then scheduled for 2021, only to be postponed again. Two years removed from the induction, the band finally held Nine Inch Nails Fan Day on Friday ahead of their Saturday gig at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

The Nine Inch Nails Fan Day festivities included a Q&A with current and former members, including co-founding member Chris Vrenna, bassist Danny Lohner, keyboardist Charlie Clouser and, most notably, guitarist Richard Patrick, the Filter frontman who left the band in 1993 after an argument with Reznor. Adding to the acrimony: Patrick was not among the seven NIN members inducted into the Rock Hall; Vrenna and Lohner made the cut.

Rihanna officially playing the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Rihanna and the NFL have both just announced that Rihanna will be headlining the show next year. It's Rihanna's first-announced public performance she played at the 2018 Grammy Awards.

The game goes down on February 12, 2023 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. It was also recently revealed that Apple Music is replacing Pepsi as the show's sponsor.

Yesterday, Toyah & Robert Fripp covered The Killers’ “Mr Brightside” with Chesney Hawkes.

I think the couple's new videos were recorded earlier because Robert Fripp is in North America on his tour. Last week he was in New York at a hotel where he had to isolate himself after catching Covid.

Coming back to the music video, Chesney Hawkes sang and played like last week, as Toyah and Robert jumped and pirouetted in the background. Oh, they were all wearing tutu*.

Yesterday there were two posters on the kitchen cupboard:
“POP BANDIT's HAVE FRIPP”
“PAY THE RANSOM or ELSE”

* A tutu is a dress worn as a costume in a classical ballet performance.

2manydjs, aka Soulwax's Stephen & David Dewaele, are reissing their classic DJ mix As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt 2 for its 20th anniversary. It will be out November 25 via DEEWEE and will also hit streaming services for the first time.

2manydjs - As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 2

As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 2 is the first album to be released by Soulwax members David and Stephen Dewaele also known as 2ManyDJs.

Originally released in August 2002, it consists of 45 remixed tracks by a series of diverse artists including Dolly Parton, Basement Jaxx and 10cc. While some of the tracks are conventional remixes, most tracks are mashup collages with the vocals of one song placed over the instrumental part of another.

Their 67-minute continuous mix gleefully blends Emerson Lake & Palmer with Basement Jaxx, Destiny's Child with 10cc, Peaches' "Fuck the Pain Away" with The Velvet Underground's "I'm Waiting for the Man," Dolly Parton and Royksopp, and throws in everything from The Cramps and The Residents to New Order, Lords of Acid, Sly & the Family Stone, Skee-lo and more along the way.

Pavement

Pavement is an American indie rock group, existing in the 90s. Although it did not achieve great commercial success, it is still perceived among indie rock listeners as cult, and its music had a huge impact on many bands of the 90s.

It is also listed among the most important performers of lo -fi. In 2010, Pavement announced its reactivation. Pavement’s 2010 reunion saw them play four sold out shows in Central Park and top the bills of festivals worldwide including Coachella, Primavera Sound, and Pitchfork.

For most of their career, the group consisted of Stephen Malkmus (vocals and guitar), Scott Kannberg (guitar and vocals), Mark Ibold (bass), Steve West (drums) and Bob Nastanovich (percussion and vocals).

This week, Toyah & Robert Fripp performed ‘Stacy’s Mom’ cover by Fountains of Wayne’s with Chesney Hawkes.

Chesney Hawkes for reasons best known to himself, has come styled as a punk, but that’s was not the most striking visual in video. For example, For example, Robert Fripp has been tied up and given a Hannibal Lecter-style face mask, while Toyah has squeezed herself into a shiny latex dress.

Toyah and Robert Fripp are back in force now that Robert has returned from his North American speaking tour. Sunday Lunch gets back to “normal” this week.

For their first new Sunday Lunch video in a month, they've covered Korn’s “Blind”.

Toyah is in great form. What flexibility at age 64. And that look on Robert's face. His face is an absolute delight.
