What's New in CIS 2011
NEW! Application Whitelisting
CIS 5.x fills the missing links that its predecessors had in this area by providing a usable application white list control.
NEW! Spyware Scanner and improved malware cleaning
CIS 5.x again fulfills the missing features of its predecessors by providing a new spyware scanner which is capable of scanning the windows registry and file system.
Note: We will be releasing the signatures for spyware scanning during the course of BETA testing. So you might not immeidately see this in action. i.e. next monday
NEW! Cloud Based Antivirus Scanning
CIS 5.x has integrated the cloud based computation everywhere. From on-demand scanning to process execution control, it checks if the file is known in the cloud.
NEW! Cloud Based Behavior Analysis
Instant malware analysis has been introduced to CIS 5.x making detection of unknown malware possible! Any unknown file that is sandboxed and NOT observed by COMODO before is submitted to CAMAS and results are sent to the PC in 15 minutes after the upload process is done.
NEW! Game Mode
Now CIS has a game mode. Just before you start to play a game, you can switch to game mode and all the alerts will be suppressed. Virus database updates or schedules scans will also be postponed.
IMPROVED! Default Deny re-engineered to improve application compatibility
Unlike CIS 4.x, CIS 5.x, by default, automatically runs every unknown executable as "Partially Limited", which is a new level introduced with CIS 5.x.
IMPROVED! A New User Interface!
You will be seeing a lot of suprises with the new user interface. It is friendlier, easier and prettier.
BETA NOTICE: This is a BETA release. It means this release is intended for special users who would like to join testing efforts for the product. It can contain serious bugs and must NOT be used in any production system.
What needs to be tested?
We would like to see the general stability and operation of the product in a wide variety of cases. The effects of cloud computing and new default deny architecture should improve the compatibility of other applications with CIS. Use of variety of applications will help us asses the effectivity of the cloud based servers too.
Another important testing area is the installation. Please let us know all the installation problems you face.

Why offer products for free?
« on: September 22, 2006, 02:31:24 PM »
A New And Updated Post Has Been Posted Here By Melih (CEO)
Ok – so now you must be wondering – “What’s the catch? If these products beat comparable solutions from the “large” software companies - why offer them for free?”
Well we are offering them for free because, as a Certification Authority, our revenue comes from the online business community.
In fact, over the past seven years we’ve grown to become the world’s second largest Certificate Authority for high assurance SSL certificates with almost 300 employees around the world thanks, in large part, to the online business community. These businesses can only grow if consumers feel safe surfing and shopping online. Unfortunately, in today’s Internet environment, trust has eroded and so has online sales growth. We want to reverse that trend. The more people trust the security of the Internet the more they will shop online. The more consumers shop online – the more online businesses will be created. And there’ll be more products and services we can sell to these growing businesses. More transactions means more need for "Trust" and Comodo is the company who is "Creating Trust Online".
That’s why we developed these products for free distribution. So you will never, ever have to pay for renewals, auto updates or subscription fees (and we mean ever)!
So try it out. If you like it spread the word. As a Certification Authority, Comodo has a special responsibility to help protect consumers on the Internet. But we can do better with your insight and intelligence. Your input will help us come up with more and more ideas to make every PC safer. Like you, we’re crazy about the net but not the fraudster nuts on it. And, so we’re developing top line products every day to counteract every trick (of theirs) in the book.
So join the good fight and help us make the Internet truly safe for all users – from Grandma to the Grand Duchess of Poznon - by participating with us in our development efforts with your creative ideas, concerns and observations. We know they’re valuable.

Comodo Manifesto - Why we do what we do!
« on: August 06, 2008, 04:08:13 PM »
Human potential unleashed through a Trusted Internet.
Communications has advanced the human race through the ages because it helped us retain and share vital information and behaviors. The first cave paintings and written scrolls evolved to printing presses and books, which then, exponentially, ignited scores of other revolutionary developments. In just 100 years, for instance, we learned how to traverse vast distances in jet planes what would have taken weeks on horseback! This is why believe communications advances human potential.
Now the Internet has become the central communications engine of our time, expanding our reach more broadly than ever before. With this tremendous reach however, the Internet has yet to achieve its full potential as a Trusted Internet. Today, we must contend with an Internet fraught with fraudsters as we singularly contend with challenges of trying to figure out who and what to trust online. We go online but we do so knowing that not all sites are equally trustworthy or that we probably shouldn’t trust most online sites with our very identities.
This is why we, at Comodo, have committed our hearts, minds and resources to the vision of a Trusted Internet. This is where every digital interaction, every online interaction will include a new layer of security and trust enabled by an entire infrastructure designed to help us create mutual and real time trust. In a Trusted Internet, we can find what we want online without wasting our time with untrustworthy merchants. We can shop far more efficiently because we can verify the site’s credibility and business practices – immediately.
And with a Trusted Internet, we will be able to do things we can’t even try to do today. With a Trusted Internet, our PCs will automatically be able to find products or information we want from reputable, authenticated merchants and “subject matter experts”. Our computers will be able to vigorously and proactively defend our identities ensuring, in real time, that our information is safe and has not been compromised. But most fundamentally it means that we will all able to connect with each other with full confidence that we can create trust online when and where we need it.
And for it to benefit everyone, it must be delivered as a right to everyone; not as a luxury or a privilege dependent on a person’s ability to pay! To reach this state, we intend to change behavior and help people move from not using PC security because they can’t afford it to using PC security because we give away it away for free. We intend to change people’s low expectation of not being able to authenticate anything online to being able to authenticate everything online – identities, content and even a site’s legitimacy.
This will be how the Internet and the power of communications intersect, unleashing new ways for us to communicate, collaborate and exchange ideas that advance us all. And this is why Comodo believes that creating trust online is a mission that inspires us forward towards our vision of a Trusted Internet!
